“I’m a final year International Event Management student at the University of Brighton, working on the PR team for the Eastbourne International Hot Air Balloon Festival.
Although I’ve had experience working at events, such as BBC Radio 2 in Hyde Park, and running my own fundraising event, I’ve never worked on something as large as the Hot Air Balloon Festival! I’ve learned a lot, from logistics to sponsorship to social media, it’s been a great experience. I’ve helped to find sponsors to fund the Festival, as well as managing our Twitter and Facebook accounts, and promoting tickets. I’ve also had a hand in organising the music for the Saturday night of the festival, and met with members of the local community at Hampden Park to ensure that the Festival goes off smoothly!”
“I am currently in my final year at the University of Brighton, studying Travel Journalism.
Having lived in Austria, the USA and multiple places in England, I think it is needless to say that I have always been an adventurer; driven by ambition and inspired by a passion to never stop learning, on a professional as well as personal level. I am inspired by working with
driven people and endeavour to work in a competitive industry.
I am part of the PR team for the festival – we are managing our website and social media accounts, planning the live-entertainment, creating a 15-page sponsorship magazine, flyer and cover for the programme. Our organisational tasks include to communicate, attend meetings and coordinate with all people involved and always be on top of everything.”
“I am a third-year Retail Marketing student at the University of Brighton and will be graduation during the summer of 2017. I graduated from Viimsi Upper Secondary School in Estonia in spring 2014 and wished to continue my academic career somewhere abroad. Retail Marketing is a subject that especially sparked an interest in me as I have always been interested in Business subjects, but as marketing itself is an incredibly wide topic then to tie it with Retail seemed like the perfect idea. Throughout my course, I have learned a lot about different marketing strategies, finance, retail operations and environment, economics and PR. Areas in which I have definitely improved and developed are time-management, teamwork, project management, IT skills and academic writing.
I have found, that every subject that needs creativity and out of the box thinking is something for me. I am also very comfortable with different linguistic tasks, as she I am bilingual and fluent in both Estonian and English, also speaking conversational Russian and understanding a bit of Spanish. Working in the PR team for such a big event as The International Eastbourne Balloon Festival has been a truly exciting and challenging experience. My favourite parts so far have been creating our social media platforms from the scratch and watching them develop and receive huge amounts of interest and positive feedback. Another exciting challenge was writing a press release for Sussex Business Platinum Magazine and helping to find potential sponsors for our great event. Daily emailing and liaising with different people and organisations who wish to be involved with the event is becoming more exciting day by day as the event is truly developing into something massive.”
“I am a final year International Hospitality Management student at the university of Brighton here in Eastbourne. I have a passion for people and I love to travel; that is why I love what I’m studying. I recently took a year out on placement and got to experience the industry first hand and have already met so many inspiring individuals. I am now so excited to see what’s round the corner when I graduate in July this year. My degree has opened so many doors and opportunities for my future career and working with Sandy and the girls on the balloon festival which could potentially become one of Eastbourne’s largest annual events is one of the highlights.
Working on the PR team has exposed me to so many new challenges and has thoroughly developed my knowledge of the events and marketing industries. Running the social media platforms, sourcing potential sponsors, launching the official website, controlling the ticket distribution and continuous liaising and responding to enquiries are just a few of the things I am involved with. This project has not only developed my organisational and account management skills but has also allowed me to develop and apply my creativity. I am learning so much every day and to see the event developing through the work we are doing is really rewarding.”
